Please specify the significance of location in step function in heat transfer?

Step functions can be used in many contexts, including heat transfer. The meaning of a step function's location is explained in the section of the Reference Manual on step functions. I do not have 6.0 installed, but in the 6.2 version of the Reference Manual, it's on page 377. But in essence, we're talking about the value of the argument around which the function transitions from one value to the other.
