Layer-adding simulation

Hi. I'm an engineering student trying to model an LBPF-type simulation, where a laser heats a part layer by layer. I was wondering if it is possible to either: 1. Run a simulation for the first layer, then automatically create the geometry, mesh, etc. for the second layer on top of the first layer, run the simulation again, using the temperature distribution at the top of the first layer as one of the boundary conditions for the bottom of the second layer - perhaps using JAVA-scripting? 2. Create a single component including all the layers, and then have all layers except the bottom one turned off (maybe using the activation feature), and as the laser moves upwards, into a new layer, have the new layer turned on, with the temperature distribution at the top of the first layer applied as a boundary condition of the bottom of the second layer.

Or perhaps there is a better method of doing layer-adding simulations?
