Buckling with Initial Imperfections
Application ID: 113611
These models illustrate some important topics when modeling buckling imperfection. The Euler 2 Buckling Imperfection model shows a simple case with a cantilever beam buckling under compression. Three different buckling modes are combined as initial imperfections. The other model, Cylindrical Shell Buckling Cleared, shows buckling in an axially symmetric shell where several buckling modes correspond to very similar critical loads. In this case, a loop over the different buckling modes provides several initial imperfections.
These models are featured in our blog post "New Functionality for Buckling Analysis in COMSOL Multiphysics®".
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Specification Chart and make use of a free evaluation license.
