Simulation of Chromatographic Band Transport
Published in 2008
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is a standard method in the pharmaceutical industry for the separation and identification of chemical compounds.
Modeling of band transport, or band broadening phenomena, can provide tremendous insight into problems of chromatography that are difficult or impossible to measure experimentally.
We used COMSOL to analyze two classes of problems in HPLC: extra band broadening in a planar microfluidic device, and thermal effects in high-pressure separations.
