Creating a Geometry from an Imported Mesh
In COMSOL Multiphysics 5.0, users can create a geometry from an imported mesh and perform solid operations on it – a useful practice when modeling some CFD, electromagnetics, and acoustics applications.
This video shows you how to utilize the "Create Geometry from Mesh" feature, convert the geometry into a solid object, create a box around it, and subtract it from the surrounding box. We visualize the results by meshing the new geometry and creating a mesh data set and plot.
Creating the new surrounding domain is useful for CFD simulations when modeling the flow around an object and/or exploring fluid-structure interactions. For electromagnetics simulations, this is useful when working with Infinite Layer and Perfectly Matched Layer domains to model the electromagnetic field. For acoustics, it comes in handy when using Perfectly Matched Layer domains to model the sound pressure level.
Please note that, at this time, an imported mesh can only be used for Boolean operations where there are no intersections between the surfaces of the imported mesh geometry and any CAD geometry that is added to the model.
