Keynote: Onboarding a CAE Department in Biopharma R&D

In this keynote talk from the COMSOL Conference 2023 Munich, Dr. Friedrich Maier of Sartorius discusses the intricacies and advantages of biopharmaceutical product development and shares Sartorius' strategic focus on the biopharma market. Maier focuses on the mission of Sartorius’ Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) department for this product development and discusses how they are using the COMSOL Multiphysics^® modeling and simulation software in their operations. Maier also discusses the design process behind an important accessory for a single-use stirred tank bioreactor.

Friedrich Maier is a senior scientist of CAE simulation at Sartorius. In his role, Maier supports the development of almost the entire Sartorius product landscape. His career is built on a physics background as well as his PhD from the University of Göttingen, Germany, where he published research on reactive flows in porous media.
