Eigenmodes in the Presence of Flow using Linearized Navier-Stokes: Annulus Geometry with Shear Flow
Application ID: 53991
Finding acoustic eigenmodes in problems solved with linearized convected acoustic interfaces can be a challenging task. The solution will most often return several non-acoustic vorticity and entropy modes. These are highly damped waves that do not propagate at the speed of sound but with the convected flow speed.
This tutorial model shows how the acoustic eigenmodes can be determined using the Linearized Navier-Stokes interface. The example studies modes in an annulus geometry with an analytical shear background-flow profile. The region search method is used to find the acoustic modes; they lie on or close to the real axis.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products.
